IQ CAMBRIDGE MAKES ‘GLOBAL VILLAGE’ A REALITY

The concept of the global village – the shrinking of the world by electronic technology – has become a fact of life, echoed by the fact that pioneers of the communications revolution ‘cluster’ together in international development centres like Cambridge’s Silicon Fen.

IQ Cambridge, a SEGRO development, offers a typical example of leading high- and bio-tech companies clustering together alongside new business start ups.

One of its most distinguished occupiers is NEC Philips, the European electronics giant. Specialising in the convergence of voice, data, mobile, video and IT communications, the group has made its UK headquarters in the prestigious Building 1000, an 8,000 sq.ft office block that enjoys a prominent location at the entrance of the park.

IQ Cambridge is also home to relatively new, yet dynamic communications specialists, like Cambridge Radio Frequency Services, which has achieved something of a coup in being appointed by Ofcom, the official UK communications register, to create the first detailed map of radio communications throughout the country.

But if the future belongs to new technologies, it is the green technologies that are currently attracting the most interest and investment, and one of IQ Cambridge’s most recent tenants, Sitec, distributors and installers of vertical wind turbines, are leaders in this field.
For international firms looking to establish a UK base, Cambridge, with its university and highly-educated employment pool, has obvious advantages, which IQ Cambridge has been pleased to promote with its participation in the Cambridge University Entrepreneurs Annual Award to find and fund new business ideas.

The difference this year is that, as an added bonus, the entry deemed most appropriate by the judges will win fully-furnished office accommodation on the park. Set in 112 acres of landscaped grounds, featuring lakes, lawns and a nature reserve, IQ Cambridge offers an unrivalled environment for business.
